DigiCue Blue Troubleshooting

Insert the battery into the DigiCue BLUE, positive side facing upwards. If the battery is installed upside-down there will not be any power provided to the unit. When the battery is inserted, the unit should vibrate one or more times. If the unit does not immediately vibrate, discard the battery and try a new one. If the unit still does not vibrate, please contact support.

Remove the blue DigiCue BLUE unit from the rubber housing. Remove and replace the battery, and verify that the unit vibrates at least once. Then look inside the hole that the push button switch protrudes out of. You should see a red light flash once every 1.5 seconds. The red light can also be visible by bringing the unit into a dark room. If you do not see a flashing red light and additionally can not connect to the unit, please contact support.

Press the power button once and verify that the unit vibrates at least once. Open the DigiCue app on your mobile device and navigate to the Devices page. You should see a button appear with information about the device at the top of the screen, which inludes a device ID and a fluctuating number (RSSI). The fluctuating number is a measure of signal strength, and it should increase (get closer to zero) as you bring the DigiCue unit closer to it. Press once on the button to let the app know that this is the device you want to scan/connect to. If you do not see any buttons appear on the screen, please check to make sure that your BT settings are enabled.

To help determine if your connectivity issue is a problem with the hardware or with the DigiCue app, try a third party app to scan the DigiCue BLUE hardware for activity. Download and install the nRF Connect app for either iOS or Android. Open the main page, and observe anything that says either DigiCue or Nathan Rhoades LLC. Also try to see if you can scan for other devices in your home.

Once you are connected, navigate to the Shooting page in the app. You should see "Start Shooting" as a message on the screen. You must physically hit a cue ball with the DigiCue BLUE properly attached to the butt end of your cue in order to register a shot. The DigiCue BLUE will not work unless a ball impact occurs. After a ball hit you should see data on the screen.

This is a common problem for an older version of the battery holder. What is happening is that even though your DigiCue BLUE is working, the battery is being very briefly disconnected when the ball impact occurs, causing the DigiCue BLUE to reset. The solution is to remove the battery, and deform the spring clip slightly by bending it up towards you. This will provide more force between the battery and the clip when the battery is replaced, and should mitigate the problem. All recent versions of the DigiCue BLUE use a different manufacturer with a stronger spring clip. If you are having issues with this paticular issue, please contact support.

Yes, it can be a little tricky to remove the DigiCue BLUE from the housing if you have a fear of breaking it. You need to carefully pry it out from the side, or eject it with the directions provided. But do not worry, you will not damage the DigiCue BLUE or the rubber housing if you use a little force to remove it. However, do not push directly from the bottom because this could damage the unit.

You may experience some false triggers when chalking of you move your cue around a lot. There was a tradeoff that needed to be made during the design of the DigiCue BLUE between detecting softly-hit shots and immunity to false triggers during other activity. The threshold was placed right in the middle to give the best of both worlds.

The unit will automatically power off after five minutes of inactivity. There is no power off button. This is normal behavior.
